The Restaurant
We have a new location! Now located at 1039 1st Avenue in Beautiful Uptown Columbus! What started as a love for fresh seafood at a newly built shopping center in an obscure neck of the woods has, by popular demand, become Columbus' favorite restaurant for lunch and dinner. Chef Jamie Gruber started cooking a mouth-watering grilled grouper sandwich with a homemade basil mayo on a toasted sourdough bun as a takeout only item. Soon there was a line out the door and a demand for seating and more delicious, healthy, and fresh seafood items.
What exists now is not a far cry from its roots. Chef Gruber still holds to his philosophy of using different and unique fish and crustaceans accompanied by ingredients that complement, but never overpower or mask the flavor intended by nature. The staff still makes you feel at home in t-shirts or dressed for the opera. The crowd still gets excited over fried catfish and raw oysters as well as daily specials like sauteed seabass with a blueberry compote and prosciutto wrapped halibut.
Guests arrive with bottles of wine and beer anticipating an evening of relaxation and culinary treats. Servers arrive with wine glasses, buckets of ice and bottle openers. The Market has the exclusive privilege of having a brown bag license that allows guests to "bring your own bottle". Furthermore, Chef Gruber has never charged a corkage fee, which may allow you to indulge in the world famous bread pudding with bourbon sauce for dessert!
Locals love to bring out of town guests to show off a bit of flavor that rivals the seafood of any coastal town or resort island. Husbands can never seem to go wrong with a birthday celebration for their wives at The Market where friends and family can share baskets of fried okra, fried green tomatoes with crab meat on top, or miniature lobster tails sauteed in a white wine, tomato, garlic, and onion broth.
The Market may not have the appearance of a fine dining restaurant, but the quality of the food and the diversity of items makes it one of the most sought after reservations in town. This institution turns down the lights, turns up the music, and turns on the heat in the kitchen. The Market welcomes their loyal patrons, foodies, and newcomers alike, just don't forget the one rule...Behave or Leave!
See you soon!
